When Machines Do the Math: AI Cracks a Million-Dollar Millennium Problem – OpenAI says one of its unreleased models solved the Navier–Stokes problem in 88 hours, using up to 10,000 AI "agents" working in concert. Mathematician Terence Tao, while acknowledging the leap, likens it to a machine that lifts weights for you at the gym: the answer arrives, but the human muscle that would have grown from the struggle does not. Copper prices are rising again - Copper is up 48% over the past year and roughly 16% in 2026 alone, breaching $14,500 a tonne on the LME — and the reasons are stacking up on both sides of the ledger. On the supply side, Chile (a quarter of global output) is producing less, mining accidents and seismic risks are biting, and a sulphuric-acid squeeze is throttling refining. On the demand side, EVs, renewables and AI data centres are pulling harder each year, with global demand set to move from 28 to 42 million tonnes by 2040. Read more
